Meatball stroganoff is my husband’s favorite comfort meal. Needless to say, it is requested a lot in this house! Meatballs are also perfect for shopping on a budget. They are always on sale/cheap to get!
What you will need from the store:
- 🥩 meat balls (frozen or fresh)
- 🍜 egg noodles
- 🥣beef broth
- 🌸flour
- 🥛heavy whipping cream
- 🧈butter
- 🌭brown mustard or dijon
- 🫙Worcestershire sauce
- 🧂salt, pepper, garlic powder, cayenne
What you want to do:
1️⃣. Brown the meatballs in the pot you will cook the sauce in. Now is a good time to boil the egg noodles too.
2️⃣. Make the base. Add 1/4 a cup of butter to 6 tablespoons of flour. Cook for about 1 minute while whisking until completely mixed.
3️⃣. Add in 1 cup of heavy cream and 4 cups of beef broth (or one whole tall box). Add in the mustard and Worcestershire (about a tablespoon of each but more if wanted). Whisk the entire time! Season to taste! Add some cayenne if you want an extra kick 🌶️!
4️⃣. Add the meatballs to the sauce. Let cook about 15 more minutes.
5️⃣. Put the pot on low. Add in the cooked noodles. You don’t want them to cook in the sauce, you just want to coat them.
6️⃣. Mix the noodles in and enjoy!
Dont be like me! I accidentally got sausage balls and not meatballs lol 😂. Made it a bit too salty for my liking. Always check to make sure! I hope you enjoy 💕.
... Read moreMeatball stroganoff uniquely combines the richness of creamy beef stroganoff sauce with the convenience and affordability of meatballs, making it both a comforting and budget-friendly meal. When preparing this dish, choosing the right ingredients enhances the flavor and texture. Fresh or frozen meatballs work well, but be sure to avoid sausage balls to prevent excess saltiness, as noted in common cooking experiences.
The sauce base is crucial for the authentic stroganoff flavor. Creating a roux with butter and flour ensures the sauce thickens properly, while gradually whisking in heavy cream and beef broth adds silky richness and depth. The addition of brown or Dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce introduces a subtle tang and umami character, balancing the creamy sauce.
Seasoning with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a pinch of cayenne pepper can customize heat levels to taste, adding complexity without overpowering the dish. Cooking the meatballs initially in the pot allows them to brown and develop flavor before simmering in the sauce for 15 minutes, infusing the sauce with savory juices.
Egg noodles are the traditional pasta choice for stroganoff, soaking up the sauce beautifully without becoming mushy. It’s important to cook the noodles separately and then briefly mix them into the sauce on low heat to coat evenly without further cooking.
This recipe’s versatility makes it perfect for budget-conscious shoppers as meatballs often go on sale, and it comes together quickly for weeknight meals. Plus, it’s a family-friendly dish that can be adjusted with different seasonings or cream alternatives to suit dietary preferences.
Overall, meatball stroganoff stands out as a satisfying, affordable comfort food option that combines ease, flavor, and classic culinary techniques to deliver a memorable dinner experience.
