🌸 Give me your advice… Where do I start? 🌸

Surviving domestic violence can been difficult, if not impossible. Entering these relationships no one really knows this is going to happen or how to avoid it.

Once in…. You’re stuck in a holding pattern of abuse…. Until they either kill you or you get the strength and courage to try and leave.

Statistically, many people in these relationships never leave, but for those who do…. It takes get courage.

In these relationships we are stripped of friendships and family. Stripped of our identity.

For me…. I wasn’t allowed to buy makeup or “care” for myself.

🌺 If I bought it put on make up, I was yelled at being asked “who I was getting cute for” and sometimes being slammed into a wall.

🌺 If I bought skin care services or items (like a face mask, serums, getting my eyebrows or nails done, etc)

Now that I am free…. Now that I have escaped…. I’ve have slowly been overcoming the trauma of the abuse and are working towards feeling like I can trust someone. I’m slowly working on feeling like I can trust myself….. embrace myself…. Love myself.

Now that I’m free I am slowly learning to take care for myself….. routine-wise though…. I don’t know much.

So…. ADVISE PLEASE!!!!

My current skin care is occasionally washing my face with Cereve dry to normal wash, use of burts bees toner, and Cereve lotion.

…. Now I know consistency is key and I’m working on being more consistent, but am I even using the right stuff?

My skin is dry and occasionally I get large red, dry, flakey patches that don’t itch.

Makeup wise… well I’m dated. The last time I wore makeup was back in 2015…. So any advice and help would be amazing. Just note…. I suck at using bronzer, highlighter, etc. if you have any tips on how to make it easier or how to improve I would love y’all forever.

... Read moreSurviving domestic violence can leave lasting scars, but self-care is a crucial part of the healing process. Many survivors struggle with rebuilding their identities post-abuse, especially in areas like skincare and makeup. Effective skincare routines can help restore healthy skin and boost self-esteem. For dry skin with flakiness, products that focus on hydration and barrier protection are essential. Look for moisturizers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which lock in moisture and support the skin's natural barrier. Incorporating gentle exfoliants, such as mild alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), once or twice a week can also help remove dead skin cells and improve texture. When it comes to makeup, it’s important to start simple. Begin with a base layer such as a BB cream or tinted moisturizer for a natural look while providing hydration. Explore tutorials specific to beginners on platforms like YouTube to demystify the application of bronzer and highlighter. Remember, makeup is not just about aesthetics—it is a powerful tool for empowerment. As you practice, be patient with yourself and focus on enjoying the process of re-discovering your beauty. Foster a supportive community by engaging with others who share their journeys, both in skincare and self-love.
