Every “hobby” I pick up is just another way to manage stress. Baking, cleaning, scrolling — none of it feels relaxing anymore. It’s like I turned fun into productivity. Maybe I don’t need new hobbies. Maybe I just need to do things without trying to be good at them.

For example, baking not to create the perfect cake, but simply to enjoy the sensory experience — the smells, textures, and creativity involved. Cleaning can also be viewed less as a duty and more as a way to create a pleasant, calming environment. Additionally, try to engage in activities without the expectation of mastery or productivity. Allowing yourself to create, explore, or simply do something fun without judgment can help rekindle the joy. It’s important to recognize that not every activity has to serve a purpose beyond your personal enjoyment. Lastly, taking breaks and addressing underlying stress or mental health needs is essential. Sometimes, hobbies feel unrelaxing because there’s too much going on underneath emotionally or mentally.
