More progress has been made on the #stainedglass piece! It's definitely been a learning adjustment. We had one piece shatter on us and we had to unsolder several pieces, cut a new one, grind it back down, copper foil them all, and resolder them. 😭

This is what we were able to finish over the weekend though! I think it's decent progress. This is the back side of the piece and once all the pieces are soldered I'll add a zinc border and then turn it over to do the front.

Hope you all have been #crafting too! If you wanna chip in, my current #kofi #goal is for stained glass supplies~

... Read moreHey everyone! You know how much I love hitting the gym or challenging myself with a new workout, but I've recently discovered that my stained glass hobby actually taps into a lot of the same skills and mindset! It might sound wild at first, but hear me out – there’s a surprising amount of crossover between crafting and athletic discipline. For anyone who's a fitness enthusiast or an athlete, you know all about focus and concentration. Whether you're lifting heavy, holding a challenging yoga pose, or sprinting, your mind has to be entirely in the moment. Stained glass is exactly the same! When I’m cutting delicate pieces for a crescent moon or grinding the intricate edges of a *dark cauldron*, my focus has to be razor-sharp. One slip, and you can ruin a piece or, worse, cut yourself. It's that same tunnel vision you get when you're pushing for a new personal best, and it's fantastic mental training. Then there’s patience and perseverance. My latest project, the one with the night sky and *green hills*, definitely tested me. I had a piece shatter, and I had to go back, unsolder, re-cut, grind, and foil all over again. Talk about a setback! But instead of getting discouraged, I channeled that same determination I use when I’m pushing through a tough last set or recovering from an injury. You learn that not everything goes perfectly the first time, and success often comes from sticking with it. That resilience, that ability to keep going despite challenges, is something both crafters and athletes share. And let's not forget dexterity and hand-eye coordination. You might not think of stained glass as a physical activity, but handling those crafting tools with precision, guiding the grinder to shape a tiny *red mushroom*, or carefully applying solder along solder lines – it all requires incredibly fine motor skills. This isn't just about making pretty art; it's about enhancing your connection between mind and hands, which can actually translate into better control and awareness in your physical activities. Think about how a golfer needs precise hand movements or a basketball player needs keen hand-eye coordination – it’s all connected! Beyond the physical skills, stained glass offers amazing mental benefits. After an intense training session, my body feels invigorated, but my mind can sometimes still be racing. Sitting at my *workbench*, immersed in the colors and textures of glass, is incredibly meditative. It’s my form of active recovery for the mind – a chance to decompress, practice mindfulness, and let my creative energy flow. It’s a wonderful way to balance out physical exertion with mental calm, helping to reduce stress and prevent burnout. Finally, there’s the sheer satisfaction of setting a goal and seeing it through. Just like achieving a new fitness milestone, finishing a complex stained glass panel like my current one, which features a blue accent on the cauldron, is incredibly rewarding. You see tangible progress with every step – from the initial design to the final polished piece. It’s a powerful reminder that consistent effort, whether in the gym or the studio, always pays off. So, if you’re an athlete looking for a complementary hobby that builds mental fortitude, patience, and fine motor skills, give stained glass a try! You might just find your new favorite way to train your brain.
