Things I’ve been up to!
So, wedding went well, honeymoon was spectacular! Now what?
Well, we’ve been married going on 3 weeks now. Since we got back from our honeymoon, we have been working on getting in routine and I’ve been working with my four year old on sleeping in his bed alone. This is new to him because we have co slept up to this point. No time felt like the right time up until now. Besides, me and my now husband were abstaining for a few months before the wedding so it definitely helped keep us in check, living together and abstaining was a challenge but the wedding night made it so worth it!
But now my son is used to his room and his bed. Now it’s time to get used to mommy being in the room next door.
I’ll admit, my other battle is bedtime with my husband. I love the cuddles, but I have to get used to his mattress. It’s a spring one. He loves it. But my hips enjoy the memory foam better. Also, I like the tv on and he likes it dead silent and dark. So we’re adjusting. Marriage is about compromise, not winning. So I tolerate the mattress until my son wakes up in the night, and he has to tolerate me watching Netflix on my iPad to go to sleep. Lol
Other than that, I couldn’t be happier. He strives to be the best husband and stepdad he can be! My son admits that his baba is the best dad in the world. It’s bittersweet. My son didn’t really get to know his real dad because he died when my son was 18months old. So his stepdad was the only one he really has memories of.
Marriage brings many changes, and adjusting to life with a partner can be a unique journey. After the initial excitement of the wedding and honeymoon, couples often face real-life challenges that require patience and understanding. One key aspect is harmonizing differing routines—such as bedtime preferences. For some, like me, the transition includes moving from co-sleeping with a child to encouraging independent sleep, which can be difficult for both parent and child. Creating a loving environment for a child while building a strong marital bond takes effort. In my case, we strive to meet each other's needs—my husband prefers silence at night, while I enjoy background noise from shows on my iPad. This balance requires compromise, illustrating that marriage is about teamwork rather than winning individual battles. Moreover, the impact of blended family dynamics can't be overlooked. As a stepdad, my husband plays a vital role in my son’s life, filling a position that’s emotionally rich but also bittersweet. Understanding and navigating these emotions are crucial for a harmonious family life. As we adapt together, we celebrate joyful moments, creating a happy and supportive home. As other parents will relate, balancing your child's needs with your partner's also creates a deeper sense of family unity and love over time. Sharing experiences and challenges can further enrich the bonds within our family.
