Fluffy Pumpkin Dinner Rolls
INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup warm milk
3 tbsp brown sugar
2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1 egg
3 tbsp butter, melted
2 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp salt
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 375F.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together warm milk, brown sugar, and instant yeast. Next, whisk in pumpkin puree, egg, and melted butter. Mix in the flour, pumpkin pie spice, and salt until a shaggy dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a clean floured surface and knead until smooth. Transfer back to the mixing bowl and let rise until the dough doubles in size — about 1 hour. I put the dough in my oven with the light on to keep it warm.
Once the dough has risen, transfer to a clean floured surface and divide into 12 small pieces. Roll each of them into a ball.
Place in a buttered baking dish and bake for 13-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Brush with melted butter and enjoy!
Pumpkin dinner rolls add a lovely seasonal twist to your holiday table, combining the warmth of pumpkin flavor with the soft, fluffy texture of classic dinner rolls. Using pumpkin puree not only imparts a subtle sweetness but also helps keep the rolls moist and tender, making them ideal for pairing with butter, jams, or savory dishes. If you’re new to bread making, this recipe’s no-stand-mixer method is especially beginner-friendly. Simply mixing ingredients in one bowl and kneading by hand gives you full control over the dough texture. Remember to keep your yeast mixture warm, ideally around 100°F, to help activate the yeast and ensure a good rise. The tip to let the dough rise in a warm oven with just the light on is a safe and effective method to maintain consistent warmth. Pumpkin pie spice is a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves — all perfect for boosting that cozy fall flavor. You can adjust the amount based on your taste preference or try adding a pinch of cardamom for a unique twist. The addition of brown sugar enriches the dough with a slight caramel flavor while feeding the yeast. For the best results, use fresh pumpkin puree — homemade or canned 100% pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling which contains added sugar and spices. When shaping the dough into rolls, aim for even size portions so they bake uniformly. After baking, brushing the rolls with melted butter adds shine, flavor, and keeps the crust soft. These dinner rolls are not only fantastic served warm on their own but also make a great base for mini sandwiches or sliders. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and reheated in the oven to refresh their softness. Including pumpkin in bread recipes has become popular as a way to incorporate seasonal ingredients while enjoying comforting baked goods. This recipe strikes a wonderful balance between ease and festive appeal that’s sure to impress your holiday guests and encourage beginners to try baking from scratch.
