have you ever caught yourself bracing for disappointment—quietly expecting things not to work out, just so you won’t be let down?

it’s something we may do without realizing: lowering our hope to protect our hearts. after delays, setbacks, or prayers that seemed unanswered, hopeful anticipation can feel risky. but God never called us to live guarded—He calls us to live with expectancy.

expectancy isn’t naïve optimism. it’s rooted in the unwavering character of God. it’s the confident joy of a daughter who knows her Father is already moving—sometimes invisibly, but always intentionally. to live expectant is to believe again. to lean in again. to pray bold prayers again.

psalm 27:13 says, “i remain confident of this: i will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” this kind of expectancy is more than a feeling—it’s a decision to partner with heaven’s perspective, even when the evidence isn’t obvious.

take a moment and ask yourself: where have i settled for caution instead of courage? what prayers have grown quiet that God may be inviting me to lift up again?

now, open your journal and bring those places before God. name the hopes you’ve buried, the dreams you’ve shelved, and the promises you’re hesitant to believe for. ask the Holy Spirit to breathe life back into them. write them down—boldly, honestly, without editing for fear or doubt. then, over the next week, revisit those pages with eyes open, watching for the goodness of the Lord in even the smallest of ways.
