have you ever allowed a struggle or temptation to define you as weak or lacking in courage? it’s so easy to let certain circumstances or past decisions define what we’re capable of. in doing so, we can miss the opportunity to appreciate the countless times in our lives where we overcame, again and again.
each battle we face in life demands a level of fortitude—whether it be financial, relational, mental, physical, or emotional. true strength lies in discovering Christ amidst each of these seasons. recognizing how Jesus lovingly fortifies us from within and empowers us to emerge stronger in Him on the other side produces a deeper confidence in His presence within us.
but shame has a way of clouding our awareness of where Christ’s strength has been at work in us. condemnation seeks to keep our eyes on ourselves instead of on the power of God within us. perspective becomes our game changer. we have holy permission to see ourselves now, today, and always as Christ does. moreover, we’re commanded to align with God in everything He says, including His affirmations about us.
in song of songs 4 the Bridegroom King says, “when I look at you, I see your inner strength, so stately and strong.” throughout this entire chapter, the King speaks only beautiful words about His bride – and spiritually speaking, that’s you and me. He describes us as those who have ravished His heart. in Him, each of us is stately and strong. since we are never without Him, this truth is always our reality. planting it deep in our hearts on a daily basis will cause it to resonate louder than any lies.
keeping in line with this truth found in songs 4:4, take some time to review your past with the Holy Spirit. write down one or more seasons of adversity that immediately come to mind. then, allow Him to reveal how He used the work of the enemy to fortify you. alternatively, let Him show you His strength in areas where you see only weakness. there are treasures of strength hidden in your past, possibly buried beneath layers of shame or condemnation. Jesus wants to unearth these treasures and reveal the beauty that He sees every time He looks at you. only He can make all things beautiful, not just through His healing touch but also through His divine perspective, which surpasses our own.
