Habit stacking = life changing

Habit stacking is a productivity strategy where you pair a new habit with an existing habit to make it easier to adopt the new behavior. By linking a new habit to something you already consistently do, the existing habit acts as a trigger or anchor for the new one. This approach leverages the power of routines and is based on the idea that it’s easier to add behaviors to an established pattern than to create a new one from scratch!

How Habit Stacking Works

Identify an Existing Habit: Choose a habit that is already well-established in your routine (e.g., brushing your teeth, waking up in the morning, running errands).

Pair with a New Habit: Add a small, manageable habit you want to build right after or before the existing habit.

Use a Clear Cue: Make sure the connection between the existing habit and the new habit is logical or easy to remember.

Examples:

After I brush my teeth, I’ll say my positive affirmations

When I wake up in the morning, I’ll drink a large glass of water

When I shower, I’ll meditate

When I sauna, I’ll read a book

When I run errands, I’ll eat a high protein snack

When I walk, I’ll listen to a podcast

Lmk if this is helpful queens!!

... Read moreHabit stacking is an effective method that leverages the power of established routines to incorporate new positive behaviors seamlessly. By connecting a new habit to an existing one, individuals can create effective cues that facilitate behavior change. For instance, adding a glass of water after brushing teeth not only supports hydration but also reinforces the behavior through a simple trigger. This mechanism operates on the belief that we are more likely to adopt new habits when they are paired with something we already do frequently. Finding the right existing habits to pair with new ones is crucial. This process can involve aspects of one's daily routine like morning activities, evening wind-downs, or even productive tasks like running errands. Research has shown that people who practice habit stacking tend to stick with their new behaviors longer than those who attempt to start fresh habits in isolation. This strategy effectively decreases the cognitive load often associated with adopting behavioral changes. Moreover, habit stacking can lead to significant improvements in wellness and productivity. For example, incorporating mindfulness practices right after a daily activity like showering can enhance mental clarity and reduce stress. Other popular habit stacks include exercising before breakfast or dedicating time for reflection or planning after major errands or meetings. Practitioners report feeling more accomplished and in control when they utilize habit stacking as part of their wellness and productivity routines. In conclusion, this strategy presents a structured and straightforward way to build lasting habits that lead to life transformation.
