Different sounds often convey different messages: The Classic Meow: This is usually reserved for humans! Adult cats rarely meow at each other. A short meow might be a greeting, a prolonged one could mean "I want something!" or "Pay attention to me!" Purrs: Often a sign of contentment and happiness, but a cat might also purr to self-soothe when stressed or in pain. Context is key! How I Connect with My Cats I've learned to listen not just to the sounds my cats make, but to watch their whole demeanor. For example, when my ginger tabby, Luna, gives a short 'mrrrp' and rubs against my legs with her tail held high, I know she's saying "Hello, I love you!" and is probably ready for some cuddles or a meal.
