One diagnosis in the family can change how you view your own health forever. 💚

Two years ago in September 2024, I made the decision to have VSG surgery because I was tired of feeling unhealthy, exhausted, and disconnected from myself. At my highest weight, I was battling Type 2 Diabetes, sleep apnea, and the emotional weight that came with it all.

Today, my Type 2 Diabetes has officially been in remission for one full year. 🙏🏽✨

But after learning my cousin was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, it reminded me that health is something we can never take for granted. So now, even in remission, I’m back to checking my glucose levels daily, staying intentional, and protecting the life I fought so hard to get back.

Healing isn’t just about losing weight.

It’s about creating habits that help you stay here longer, feel better, and show up fully for yourself and the people you love.

This is your reminder to:

• Schedule the check-up

• Monitor your numbers

• Move your body

• Nourish yourself with love

• Stop ignoring the signs your body is giving you

Your health matters before the diagnosis. 💚

Type 2 diabetes remission, VSG journey, bariatric surgery transformation, blood sugar awareness, healthy habits for women, wellness journey

5/22 Edited to

... Read moreAfter undergoing VSG surgery and achieving remission from Type 2 Diabetes, I realized that the real challenge lies in maintaining this new phase of health intentionally every day. Checking my blood sugar levels daily has become a vital habit, one that keeps me connected to my body and aware of any subtle changes. This habit was inspired partly by my cousin’s recent Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis, which reminded me that diabetes is complex and personal, and that vigilance matters even after remission. Incorporating regular monitoring into my routine has helped me catch small fluctuations early, enabling me to adjust my diet or activity levels accordingly. I use a glucose meter that syncs directly to my phone, making it convenient to track patterns and share data with my healthcare provider. This tech-assisted tracking has empowered me with actionable insights about how different foods and stress affect my blood sugar. Besides monitoring, movement is key. I focus on exercises that I enjoy, like walking and yoga, to stay consistent without feeling overwhelmed. Physical activity not only supports blood sugar regulation but also boosts mood and energy. Nourishing myself with wholesome, balanced meals and listening to my body's cues has transformed how I view food—not as a restriction, but as an essential part of healing and thriving. One important lesson I’ve learned is to never ignore signs my body signals, whether it’s fatigue, increased thirst, or unexpected mood changes. Early attention to these enables faster responses and reduces risks. Scheduling regular medical check-ups and lab tests to monitor my overall health status keeps me accountable and informed, reinforcing that wellness is a lifelong journey, not a destination. For anyone facing similar health challenges or on a bariatric journey, these daily habits create a sustainable foundation to not just lose weight but to build resilience and vitality. Ultimately, wellness is about showing up fully for yourself and your loved ones, protecting the precious gift of health that can transform your life beyond measure.
