Let’s talk about mother/son trauma.

So often, we only hear about the mother/daughter dynamic—but sons carry wounds too.

Wounds from silence. From emotional absence. From being told to “man up.”

From being the emotional partner when the father wasn’t there.

From being the protector while still needing protection themselves.

👉🏾 Trauma bonds form when pain becomes the link—when love is tied to control, guilt, shame, or unmet expectations.

And sadly, many mothers and sons don’t even realize they’re in one.

💬 Healing starts with:

Acknowledging what wasn’t okay.

Giving space for his voice without judgment.

Releasing the guilt that says “I failed as a mother.”

Rebuilding a relationship based on mutual respect, not survival roles.

👣 One step at a time… you both deserve peace, not just roles to play.

Tag a mother or son who’s walking this healing journey. 💙

... Read moreMother/son trauma bonds are complex and often unrecognized. These bonds can form from emotional absence and societal expectations that pressure boys to suppress their feelings and behave stoically. It's essential to address these deep-rooted issues, as many sons carry not just anger but also profound hurt stemming from their relationships with their mothers. Healing begins with acknowledgment—recognizing the pain of silence that prevents emotional connection. Mothers can help bridge this gap by listening without judgment and allowing open conversations about feelings. It's also crucial to alleviate guilt, often felt by mothers who believe they have failed. By establishing a relationship rooted in respect, both parties can move away from traditional survival roles towards a more nurturing connection. Practical steps include regular check-ins, validating each other's feelings, and engaging in activities that foster bonding while focusing on emotional well-being. Breaking the cycle of trauma requires patience and a commitment to change, but ultimately, both mother and son deserve peace and authenticity in their relationship. Start this journey today and tag someone who can relate.
