homemade fig newtons
1. simmer chopped figs with brown sugar, honey, lemon, cinnamon + salt until jammy (15–20 min)
2. blend smooth + chill the filling
3. cream butter + brown sugar, mix in yolk + vanilla
4. add flour, baking powder, salt → chill dough 30–60 min
5. roll + cut dough into 3-inch strips
6. fill, fold into logs, seam down
7. chill 10 min, bake 350° for 12–15 min
8. cool, slice into bars 🍪
