who knew iced coffee would be so hard to find in Italyyy #icedcoffee #italy #caffeleccese #canadiantiktoker #puglia
Traveling through Italy, I quickly realized that the classic iced coffee we know from places like Canada or the U.S. isn’t a common find here. Instead, locals enjoy much simpler and traditional coffee experiences. However, I discovered something truly unique and refreshing called "Caffè Leccese" during my stay in the Puglia region, which instantly became my favorite coffee treat. Caffè Leccese is basically a shot of espresso served with a special ingredient—latte di mandorla, or almond syrup—which gives it a subtly sweet and nutty flavor perfect for warm weather. It’s refreshing and far from the typical iced coffee but still satisfies that craving for a chilled coffee drink. Making it at home is quite easy once you get your hands on almond syrup, which can sometimes be found at specialty grocery stores. Personally, I found that adjusting the sweetness can improve the experience. Adding milk or even a splash of cold water balances the richness of the espresso and almond syrup, creating a smooth and delicious drink. It’s interesting because Italians usually serve espresso hot and intense, so this cold, sweet twist was a delightful change. If you love iced coffee but find yourself in Italy, I recommend trying Caffè Leccese. It’s a local specialty that captures the essence of Italian coffee culture while keeping things cool and refreshing. Plus, experimenting with this recipe at home can give you a taste of Italy all year round!
