What my neurodivergent partner and I do for fun

We don’t get a chance to do date night much anymore, maybe 2-3 times a month. If we could do it more often, we would! But with kids and very few trusted adults to watch them, it becomes kind of tricky.

When we do have date night, we make sure to make the most of it! When it’s my turn, I almost always choose the arcade or a house show at my favorite club. When my spouse chooses, they often pick a new food spot, or somewhere quiet like a quaint teahouse, or bookstore.

Wherever we end up, here’s the rules: we leave whenever we get overwhelmed, we accommodate with noise canceling headphones when needed, and bring along safe foods in case of emergency.

What’s your favorite date night?

... Read moreFor neurodivergent couples, date nights can be a rewarding yet challenging experience. With diverse needs and preferences, it’s important to choose activities that allow both partners to feel comfortable and included. One great idea for sensory seekers is visiting an arcade or bowling alley, which provides a fun, energetic atmosphere that's responsive to excitement and nostalgia. Alternatively, couples seeking a quieter experience can enjoy a peaceful outing at a charming local teahouse or bookstore, offering a relaxing environment for intimate conversations. For those with ADHD, exploring new restaurants or embarking on spontaneous road trips can add an element of adventure to date nights, keeping the experience fresh and engaging. Accommodating each other's needs is essential. For instance, bringing noise-canceling headphones and familiar snacks can greatly enhance comfort levels and ensure that the outing remains enjoyable. It's vital to communicate openly about what works best for both partners and establish a shared understanding of when to leave if feelings of overwhelm arise. Remember, the best date nights stem from mutual respect and understanding. What activities have brought you joy? Share your favorite date night experiences and inspire others to craft memorable moments with their partners.

What a reset looks like for me as a neurodivergent
As an ADHDer, I have to regularly change up my systems to keep them maximally efficient. But even though I am well aware of this, when it comes time to actually do the change, I often freeze. Or worse, I try to implement the system with a very low success rate. But honestly? I already think the
