Changing up my ADHD medication

I’ve been very open with medication changing my life for the better, and it has. When I look back to January of this year, I was depressed, unable to care for my kids the way I wanted to, and dragging my way through each day.

Today, my mental health has improved and I have more energy than I used to. But the medication I’m currently taking (Adderall) has stopped reliably working. I don’t take my meds every day, but I’m finding I get maybe 5 days of reliable use out of the month. So, my doctor upped my meds.

But I had a horrible reaction. The 15s were way too strong and made me miserable the week that I took them. So I asked for another medication: Enter, Vyvanse. I’ve heard from several AuDHD people that this one works well for them. But I’m so nervous to start it tomorrow.

What’s your experience with meds?

... Read moreChanging ADHD medication can be daunting, especially when side effects and individual responses to treatments vary. Many individuals navigate medication adjustments for improved focus and energy, essential for daily life. Transitioning from Adderall to Vyvanse, for example, highlights a common experience where one medication may lose effectiveness over time. Adderall, a stimulant, can help many, but for others, it can lead to uncomfortable reactions or anxiety. Patients often seek alternatives like Vyvanse, which may offer a smoother experience with fewer side effects for neurodivergent individuals. It's beneficial to share experiences within supportive communities, as personal anecdotes help others facing similar situations. Group discussions often reveal how each medication impacts mental health differently, emphasizing the need for personalized treatment plans guided by healthcare professionals. Resources and forums can connect you with others who are navigating similar challenges, offering both support and advice, fostering a shared understanding in the ADHD community. Being open about the medication journey allows you to better advocate for yourself in seeking the most effective treatment.
