i have depression, anxiety, adhd, and ptsd.

what a combo, right?

i hate how stigmatized mental illness is in today’s society. it’s definitely getting better, but we’re still not all the way there. i’ve always been very open about my mental health struggles, and if i can help even just one person by telling my story then it’s absolutely worth it.

i was first diagnosed with depression and anxiety after one of my best friends passed away in 2021. i started going to therapy after that, and realized how badly i needed it throughout my teenage years. therapy was genuinely lifesaving for me, and i think EVERYONE should go to therapy at least once. even if you have nothing actively going on, it’s still so helpful to talk everything out with a professional.

my psychiatrist at the time started me on Zoloft, and gradually increased me to 100mg (which i’m on now). Zoloft, and basically all SSRIs, can make someone feel like an emotionless zombie, which is what i experienced. i told my psychiatrist, and she had me try Wellbutrin with the Zoloft, and that combo was perfect for me. i also tried mirtazapine, lamictal, and trazodone (for sleep), but Zoloft 100mg and Wellbutrin 300mg was the perfect combo for my depression and anxiety.

in 2023, i moved back home and went to a new doctor. i always suspected i had ADHD, and finally got diagnosed. my doctor started me on 5mg of Adderall, and now i’m on 35mg. i may look into a higher dose, but my current combo of 100mg Zoloft, 300mg Wellbutrin, and 35mg Adderall has genuinely been life changing.

moral of the story: you are NEVER alone. mental health is just as important as psychical health, and you shouldn’t feel ashamed or embarrassed to seek mental health treatment. talking to someone and letting people help you will make such a positive impact on your life!

(psa: just because this medication combo works for me, doesn’t mean it’ll work for everyone else. everyone is different! it took me around a year of trial and error to find the perfect combo, so don’t give up if medications don’t work right away.)
