In many countries, including Thailand, if you purchase an item from the Apple Store, either through the website or from the storefront, there is a policy to return the item within 14 days. If the buyer is not satisfied with the item, the condition that the device must not be damaged by use, you can refund it and receive a full refund.

But most recently, there have been reports from Chinese media that some groups have begun to abuse this policy loophole by buying an iPhone from Apple and unpacking the machine to remove the original screen before turning it into a cheap fake screen, putting it back in and refunding it.

The genuine iPhone screen is known to be of relatively high value. It can be resold or repaired to other machines, allowing those who do this method to make a profit of thousands of yuan per unit. After changing the screen, it relies on a 14-day return policy to bring the machine back to Apple.

Previously, Apple often refunded relatively quickly upon receipt of the goods back, and did not thoroughly examine the parts inside the machine, allowing such a method to be done for some time.

A subsequent problem was that some of the reacquired iPhones were resold on e-commerce channels as used goods, causing some of those that had been turned into low-quality screens to fall into the market, so that users began to complain about screen quality.

After investigating the cause, Apple decided to adjust its return policy more stringently, whereby returned iPhones had to be returned for thorough inspection, with internal parts serial numbers checked; if a replacement was found, a refund would be rejected immediately; and the relevant Apple account could be permanently suspended.

The change makes the return process not as fast as before. From the original, the refund is almost immediately available. It currently has to wait for a factory inspection, which can take more than a month to get the refund.
