Gospel for today: Mark 9:38
Gospel for today according to Saint Mark
Mark 9:38-40
John said to Jesus,
"Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name,
and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us."
Jesus replied, "Do not prevent him.
There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name
who can at the same time speak ill of me.
For whoever is not against us is for us."

In Mark 9:38-40, we witness a profound moment where John shares his concerns with Jesus about someone performing miracles in His name despite not being part of their group. This encounter emphasizes the wide-reaching effects of Jesus' teachings and how good deeds transcend group affiliation. Jesus' response reassures us that those who act out of true faith are allies in His mission: "For whoever is not against us is for us." This narrative challenges believers to embrace diversity in faith practices and recognize that acts of compassion and goodness can come from all corners. In today’s context, this passage encourages us to foster unity and support among different faith communities. It prompts an examination of personal biases that may hinder connection with those who express their faith differently. Reflecting on our actions and intentions can inspire a more inclusive approach to spreading love and kindness, which are at the heart of Christianity. Let this gospel remind us that God’s work can manifest in unexpected ways and through various individuals. It compels us to celebrate the good being done in the world, regardless of the source, and supports the ongoing dialogue about faith in our daily lives. As we share and spread the good news, let’s open our hearts to all who are genuinely seeking to serve and uplift others.
