... Read moreAs someone who often finds themselves playing the role of a therapist in their social circle or online community, I've learned that taking regular breaks is essential for maintaining my own mental health. The idea of being 'OTW to (not) be anyone's therapist (until Monday)' resonates deeply because it highlights the importance of setting boundaries. Weekends are prime time for recharging. For me, stepping away from others’ emotional burdens allows me to reconnect with myself and prioritize my well-being. This means intentionally planning activities that foster relaxation and joy—whether that’s spending time outdoors, engaging in hobbies, or simply unplugging from social media. Dressing up for the weekend (#ootn) can also be surprisingly uplifting. It shifts the mindset from work-mode or caretaker mode into a state of personal celebration. I find that even small routines like this help in reinforcing the boundary between my role as a supportive friend and my need for self-care. If you often feel drained by others’ emotional needs, trying out a weekend ‘no-therapist’ rule might help. It’s about giving yourself permission to rest without guilt, knowing that your well-being is vital for being present and supportive when it truly matters. Sharing this practice on platforms like #therapistsontiktok can also create a supportive community who values balance and mental health. Ultimately, taking a weekend off from being a therapist is not just about absence; it’s about presence—being present with yourself first and foremost.
