Being generous, not anxious

Dear Lord,

Help us to consider what we have to offer and give without expecting anything in return. In our marriage, will You please motivate us to give lavishly? When we offer physical affection or words of encouragement or lend a hand of support, please show us how to give freely to one another. When we have needs that aren’t being met, we ask You, God, to prompt us to approach the conversation warmly, stating what we need. Keep us from withholding what we should give.

In Jesus’ name, AMEN!

... Read moreIn my own experience, practicing generosity within a marriage has been transformative, especially when paired with trust that our needs will be met without anxiety. The biblical reminder not to be anxious about life’s daily needs—such as food, drink, or clothing—resonates deeply when applied to relationships. This approach encourages us to focus less on worry and more on abundant giving. One practical way I’ve seen this manifested is by consciously choosing to offer encouragement and physical affection regularly, without keeping score or expecting reciprocation. This has cultivated a warm atmosphere where both partners feel safe to express their needs openly. Rather than suppressing unmet needs out of fear or frustration, approaching the conversation with kindness and clarity promotes understanding and connection. Moreover, withholding affection or support often stems from anxiety about whether our own needs are recognized. Recognizing this tendency allowed me to intentionally release control and trust in the relationship’s natural reciprocity. Embracing generosity as a mindset—modeled after spiritual teachings—helps diminish anxiety and nurtures a deeper, more loving bond. I encourage others to reflect on what we have to offer and embrace giving as a joyful practice. Whether it’s words of encouragement, helping hand, or simple gestures of love, generous giving frees us from worry and enriches our marriages with grace and warmth.
