Don’t shrink yourself
Lately, a powerful message has been resonating deeply with me, something I felt God impressed upon my heart: 'Don't shrink yourself, when I called you to be bold and mighty.' This isn't just a fleeting thought; it's a profound call to live authentically and fully, without dimming our light for anyone or anything. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of shrinking ourselves. We do it when we hold back our true opinions to avoid conflict, when we downplay our achievements so others don’t feel inferior, or when we hide our unique gifts because we fear standing out. I know I've been guilty of 'shrinking myself for others' too many times, trying to fit into a mold that was never meant for me. It often stems from a place of insecurity, a subtle feeling that our true self might be 'too much' or not good enough. It's a paradox, isn't it? Sometimes, the very act of shrinking can ironically come from a place that feels 'incredibly insecure,' even if we present it as humility. True humility isn't about diminishing your God-given potential; it's about recognizing it and using it for good. But what does it truly mean to be 'bold and mighty'? It's not about being loud or arrogant. Instead, it's about having the courage to be your authentic self, to step into the purpose you were created for. For me, as someone who identifies with the #christiancommunitylemon8, it means trusting that God has equipped me with unique strengths and a voice that needs to be heard. It's about letting His light shine through me, rather than trying to hide it. So, how can we stop this pattern of 'never shrink' and start embracing our inherent power? Here are a few things I've been practicing: Self-Awareness: The first step is to recognize when and why you're shrinking. Is it a particular person? A specific situation? Once you identify the triggers, you can consciously choose a different response. Challenge Your Inner Critic: That voice telling you to play it safe, to not speak up, to hide your talents – challenge it. Ask yourself if what it's saying aligns with the truth of who you are and who you are called to be. Remind yourself that you are called to be bold and mighty. Take Small, Courageous Steps: You don't have to overhaul your entire life overnight. Start small. Share an idea in a meeting, wear that outfit you love but feel self-conscious about, or simply speak your mind kindly in a conversation where you usually wouldn't. Each small act builds confidence. Surround Yourself with Encouragers: Seek out people who celebrate your strengths and encourage you to grow, rather than those who make you feel like you need to conform. Being part of a supportive community, like the one I find in my faith, can make all the difference. Reconnect with Your Purpose: For me, understanding my calling and purpose through my faith gives me the conviction to stand tall. When you know why you're here, it becomes easier to stop shrinking and start living out that purpose with boldness. Remember, you were created with unique gifts and a powerful spirit. Don't let fear or the desire to please others diminish who you truly are. Embrace the call to be bold and mighty, and watch how your life, and the lives you touch, begin to transform.
