I’m constipated & I keep getting hives🙈

1.5 weeks into the cleanse and I’m having a few issues🫠

Why do I think I’m constipated?

1. Diet is to high in protein. When your diet is too high in protein there’s not much room for other foods that might help things along (not always, speaking from my experience)

2. Water intake has decreased. This alone can cause issues with bowel movements but some of the herbs I’m taking for the parasite cleanse can also cause constipation if you’re not drinking enough water along with them.

3. I’m getting hives after eating everything. I didn’t have this until a week ago.

I’m trying to push through only a week and a half in but I felt 10x better before starting this cleanse. My bowels worked perfectly fine and my skin wasn’t reacting to everything. 4 months seems like a long time to deal with constipation and hives🥲🙈

Because truthfully the only way I see myself going to the bathroom fully would be if I took laxatives and I moved away from that life last May so I really don’t want to go back.

I’d rather stop the cleanse and let my body eliminate properly rather than using laxatives for 4 months on the parasite cleanse.

AND it doesn’t help that I already have slow motility.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I think I definitely want to try to hit at least a month but this is actually so frustrating and I felt SO much better prior to starting.

When I've personally dealt with these kinds of issues, I've learned a lot about how interconnected our gut health is with everything else, especially our skin. Sometimes, when we make big dietary changes, even with a cleanse, our body can react in surprising ways. For instance, if your protein intake is really high and you're not getting enough fiber from fruits and vegetables – something I've definitely experienced – it can really slow things down in your digestive system. Our gut needs that bulk and roughage to keep things moving smoothly. Without enough fiber, stool can become hard and difficult to pass, leading to that uncomfortable 'trouble fully going to the bathroom' feeling. And then there's the water intake! Oh my goodness, it's so easy for our water intake to decrease without even realizing it, especially when we're focusing on other aspects of a cleanse or just busy. But proper hydration is absolutely crucial for soft, regular bowel movements. If you're taking herbs or supplements, as I often do, they can sometimes be dehydrating, making it even more important to consciously increase your water intake. Without enough water, your body pulls moisture from elsewhere, including your colon, making constipation even worse. The hives are another tricky one, and something I’ve personally experienced too. It's like your body is trying to tell you something! Skin issues like hives can often be a sign of internal inflammation or a reaction to something in your diet or environment. When your gut isn't happy – perhaps due to temporary dysbiosis from a cleanse, or if you're not eliminating properly – it can sometimes lead to toxins or inflammatory responses that manifest on your skin. It's a bit like your skin is trying to pick up the slack when your other elimination organs are struggling. From my own journey, a few things I've found helpful (and please, always check with a professional for your specific situation!) are really dialing in on increasing gentle, soluble fiber in my diet if I'm constipated – think chia seeds, psyllium husk, or gentle fruits like ripe bananas and berries. And making sure I'm drinking filtered water throughout the day, not just when I feel thirsty. For hives, sometimes taking a closer look at potential food triggers or even just trying to soothe the skin with natural remedies can help. Ultimately, listening to your body is key. While cleanses can be beneficial, if you're experiencing severe discomfort or feeling worse, it's always a good idea to pause and reassess. Our bodies are complex, and sometimes what works for one person might not be right for another. It's a learning process for all of us trying to improve our gut health!
