For me, even wearing a turtleneck can become a source of discomfort, triggering a sensory overload that feels overwhelming. It's not about anger but about the intense awareness of sensations others typically filter out. One common experience among those with ADHD is being sensitive to noises others barely register. For instance, a buzzing light or distant chewing can distract or agitate, making it difficult to focus or remain calm. These seemingly minor sensory inputs can accumulate quickly, creating a sense of chaos within the mind. Managing this sensory overload requires strategies like choosing comfortable clothing that doesn't irritate the skin and creating quieter environments whenever possible. Using noise-canceling headphones or soft background music can help mask distracting sounds. Practicing mindfulness and taking breaks also assist in regaining focus and reducing overwhelm. Sharing these experiences openly helps increase awareness about ADHD's less visible symptoms. It’s important to remember that reactions attributed to anger or frustration can often stem from sensory overload. Understanding and empathy from friends, family, and coworkers make a significant difference in daily life for those with ADHD.
