My Metformin

About a month ago I began taking metformin (1000mg 2x a day) to help manage my PCOS after trying everything. Here's how it's going~

- symptoms are starting to level out and not be so harsh

-skin is staying relatively clear

-facial hair growth basically gone

-no more binging though I do occasionally get a sweet tooth

- I get full easier and eating whole foods helps a lot

- I'm finally losing weight after months of trying and not getting any results (I'm down about 10ish lbs)

if you can handle the side effects then I'd totally recommend trying it to help manage PCOS symptoms!!

... Read moreMetformin is a commonly prescribed medication for managing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal disorder affecting many women of reproductive age. It works primarily by improving insulin sensitivity, which helps regulate menstrual cycles and reduce elevated androgen levels that contribute to symptoms such as facial hair growth and acne. Many women find metformin beneficial not only for hormonal balance but also for weight management, as it can reduce appetite and improve the body’s metabolic function. The reported side effects usually involve gastrointestinal discomfort, which tend to diminish after the initial weeks of use. Eating whole foods and maintaining a balanced diet can complement metformin’s effects and enhance symptom improvement. Weight loss, as noted in this journey, is often a significant relief for those with PCOS struggling with stubborn weight gain. The reduction in binge eating and improved satiety mentioned aligns with metformin’s role in stabilizing blood sugar and insulin levels. Importantly, mental health and emotional support should be considered alongside medical treatment, given the psychological impact PCOS can have. Regular monitoring and consultations with healthcare providers are essential to optimize metformin therapy, adjust dosages if necessary, and manage any adverse effects. Combining lifestyle changes, such as exercise and diet improvements, with metformin therapy offers the best chance for controlling PCOS symptoms effectively. In summary, metformin can be a valuable component in a comprehensive PCOS management plan. Personal experiences like this highlight the potential for improved quality of life, symptom relief, and gradual weight loss when coupled with healthy lifestyle habits.
