Balancing Work Life and Motherhood

Being a mom is hard. Working full time is hard. The two both co-exist, and manage to make life difficult; sometimes simultaneously, sometimes alternately. Life has a really fun way of knowing exactly what to throw at you next!

Applying these tips on managing working full time and motherhood can help relieve daily stress, and lead to a healthier, balanced lifestyle.

💛set realistic goals

Don’t try to cram all things into one day. You’re only one person who can do so much. Prioritizing is key to setting realistic goals.

💛 create a schedule

Getting a large dry erase calendar that you can keep track of your family schedules, and day to day activities, can help take a mental load off your mind. Having tangible reminders of when / where you and your family should be every day is super convenient.

💛 delegate tasks + chores

Don’t be afraid to ask for help! If your significant other is home to help with the chaos of dinner time & next day prep, then utilize them!!!

💛 practice self care

Take a nap, read a book, take a bath, go on a run, lay in a dark room and listen to music, eat a nutritious meal. Do whatever you want to do that will bring you peace and allow you to reset.

Know that you are appreciated and loved for all the hard work you put in to support your family. It’s important to remember to reap your rewards, and take the time to invest in YOU.

First, let's talk about realistic goals in a deeper way. It’s not just about what you can do, but what you should do. I used to feel guilty if I didn't tackle every single item on my to-do list. Now, I focus on identifying my 'non-negotiables' for the day – maybe it's a critical work deadline, spending quality time reading a book with my toddler, or making sure I get in a 20-minute walk. Everything else becomes a 'bonus.' This mindset shift has been huge for reducing my mental load. I even keep a visual reminder, like a small sticky note by my laptop, of these top priorities to keep me focused. When it comes to creating a schedule, don't just think about work and appointments. Factor in 'buffer time' for the inevitable unexpected kid-related delays or urgent emails. I've found that having a family command center with a large calendar helps everyone see what's happening. We even color-code activities, which my older children love! For my younger one, sticking to a consistent bedtime routine is a game-changer for my evening work window. Delegating tasks goes beyond just asking for help; it's about empowering your family. My partner and I have clearly defined roles for evening routines. He’s amazing at bath time and bedtime stories, which gives me a crucial hour to either finish up work or just unwind. Seeing him on the floor playing with our baby, just like in that sweet photo, reminds me how important his involvement is. Even my older daughter helps set the table or put away her toys after she's done coloring. It lightens my load and teaches them responsibility. Don't be afraid to outsource if your budget allows, even if it's just a cleaning service once a month or a meal prep delivery. Every little bit helps. And for self-care, this isn't a luxury, it's a necessity. I struggled with mom guilt for years, feeling like every moment needed to be dedicated to my kids or work. But I realized I was pouring from an empty cup. Self-care doesn't have to be grand. For me, it's often small, consistent acts: a hot cup of tea alone before anyone wakes up, 15 minutes of journaling, or even just sitting by the swimming pool watching the kids play while I listen to a podcast. It’s about finding those tiny pockets of peace that recharge you. Remember, a happier, less stressed mom is a better mom and a more effective professional. You deserve that time to invest in YOU.
