My first sourdough ever 🥹🍞… and it actually worked

My first sourdough 🥰 From the starter to this golden loaf, baking has truly stolen my heart. This will be my last loaf for a bit until I have my own space, but I can’t wait to keep creating and sharing more baking adventures in the future 💛🍞

2/2 Edited to

... Read moreBaking your first sourdough loaf is a rewarding experience that beautifully combines patience, care, and a little bit of science. From nurturing your starter to watching the dough rise and finally pulling a golden crusty loaf out of the oven, every step teaches you something new about the art of bread making. One tip I found especially helpful was maintaining a consistent environment for the starter — room temperature plays a huge role in how active your sourdough culture becomes. Feeding it regularly with the right flour and water ratios helped me develop a strong and bubbly starter faster than I expected. When it came to baking, preheating the oven properly and using a baking stone or Dutch oven helped achieve that beautiful crust and moist crumb that sourdough lovers crave. I also learned that scoring the dough before baking not only looks impressive but aids the bread's expansion in the oven. Although this was my first loaf and I’m pausing my baking journey for now, I feel inspired to keep exploring different recipes and techniques once I have my own baking space. Sourdough baking has truly captured my heart, turning simple ingredients into something magical you can share with others. If you’re thinking about starting your own sourdough, my advice is to embrace the process — mistakes are part of the fun, and every loaf makes you a better baker!

Sourdough starter : for beginners
TIP #1 : For your first measurement, weigh the flour using a kitchen scale so you can get an idea of how the mixture should feel. Do not weigh the measuring cup! It should be like a thick paste, like peanut butter. If you need to add a little more water to incorporate the flour, that is OK too!
