A Big Step for My Girl 💛 | ADHD + Anxiety 🥰

Today was one of those big mom days.

I took Amera to her psychiatrist appointment… and after lots of questions, stories, and tears (mine and hers), she was officially diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety.

I can’t explain the mix of emotions — relief, sadness, hope — but mostly, gratitude.

Grateful that we finally have answers.

Grateful that she’ll get the support she deserves.

Grateful that she’ll finally understand herself a little better.

For so long, I watched her struggle and thought, “Why is everything so much harder for her?”

Now I know — and now we can help her thrive. 🌼

If you’re a mom and you’ve been wondering if your daughter might have ADHD too, here are the 5 signs I noticed with Amera before her diagnosis:

1️⃣ She takes longer to complete schoolwork and gets easily overwhelmed.

2️⃣ She shuts down when rushed or pressured.

3️⃣ She’s bright but has trouble finishing tasks or staying focused.

4️⃣ Her emotions are big — joy, frustration, sadness — she feels everything deeply.

5️⃣ She worries a lot about disappointing others or “messing up.”

Mama reminder: Trust your intuition.

You know your child better than anyone else.

Getting help isn’t labeling them — it’s giving them freedom. 💖

... Read moreReceiving a diagnosis of ADHD and anxiety for a child can truly be a pivotal moment for a family, opening pathways to understanding and appropriate support. ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, often presents differently in girls than boys, making it harder to recognize. Girls with ADHD might not be hyperactive but may struggle silently with focus, organization, and emotional regulation. Anxiety commonly co-occurs with ADHD, amplifying feelings of worry and overwhelm. If you suspect your daughter might be dealing with ADHD and anxiety, it helps to observe behaviors like difficulty completing school assignments, shutting down under pressure, extreme emotional responses, or excessive worry about disappointing others. These signs reflect challenges in executive functioning and emotional processing, which are common in girls with these conditions. It's also important for moms and caregivers to trust their intuition. You know your child best, and seeking a professional evaluation isn’t about labeling but about obtaining clarity to better tailor support to her needs. Early diagnosis can lead to interventions such as tailored learning strategies, emotional coping skills, and, if appropriate, treatments that improve focus and reduce anxiety. Moreover, raising awareness about ADHD in girls is critical, as many remain undiagnosed or misdiagnosed due to subtler symptoms compared to boys. Communities and hashtags like #adhdinwomen and #adhdawareness emphasize the importance of understanding girls' unique experiences. Your journey as a mother navigating these diagnoses is filled with complex emotions — relief from finally knowing the cause, sadness for struggles endured, hope for improved support, and gratitude for the chance to empower your daughter. Remember that support from family, educators, and healthcare providers can help her thrive in school and life. Celebrate her strengths and help her develop the tools she needs while promoting self-confidence and resilience. Together, you can turn these challenges into stepping stones toward a fulfilling future.
