Heart Eyes “Review”

❤️❤️

I LOVE a good slasher movie. I LOVE the SCREAM movies… like obsessed. When I saw that this was made by the same people I knew I had to give it a FAT chance.

-First off I LOVE the actors. Olivia Holt is a goddess and Mason Gooding is not only hot but also from the scream franchise which is a fun easter egg. (Not to mentions chads muscles “Hobs and Shaw”)

-The killer does not have a motive besides killing lovers. Which is crazy. The fact that he does it for years before the setting of the movie was cool. This “couples” situation is definitely a wrong place at the wrong time.

- I loved the cupids arrows, adding character to the HEK, but the amount of weapons was interesting. However I didn’t like the mask. Only the eyes part (NTM the night vision)

- I definitely think it was unrealistic in many ways. But I don’t think that took away from the story.

-There were a lot of funny moments. Making it feel like a Rom-Com.

Overall I think I would rate it an 8/10. Doesn’t beat SCREAM however I would watch it again.

2025/2/10 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so let's talk more about the cast because Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding really carry this film, and honestly, they're a huge reason I gave it an 8/10. Olivia Holt is just captivating; her performance really makes you root for her character, even when things get totally wild and she's covered in simulated blood. And Mason Gooding? His charm is undeniable, and for any Scream fans out there, seeing him in another slasher adds such a fun layer. You can definitely feel that playful nod to the genre. Their on-screen dynamic, even amidst all the chaos, brings a certain energy that prevents the movie from becoming too bleak. It’s not just about the scares; it’s about watching these two navigate an impossible situation, and they do a fantastic job. Now, for the killer – this is where 'Heart Eyes' really tries to carve out its own identity. The idea of a killer whose sole motive is targeting lovers, operating for years before the main story even begins, is genuinely creepy and gives the killer a truly unique, experimental style. It's not about revenge or a complex backstory; it's just pure, unadulterated anti-romance, which makes it a perfect (albeit twisted) Valentine's Day watch. Those cupid's arrows as weapons? Brilliant! They add a dark, ironic touch to the whole 'couples' situation. While I wasn't a huge fan of the mask itself, the varied arsenal of weapons the killer employed kept things unpredictable and gruesome in the best slasher way. It genuinely felt like a fresh take on slasher villainy. One of the things that surprised me most about 'Heart Eyes' was its ability to weave in moments of genuine humor. You get these intense slasher sequences, and then suddenly, there's a line or a situation that makes you laugh out loud, giving it almost a rom-com vibe at times. Yes, there were definitely points where I thought, 'Okay, that's a bit unrealistic,' but honestly, it never took me out of the story. The film embraces its genre conventions and knows how to have fun with them. It felt like a standalone story, which I actually appreciated – no pressure for a sequel, just a contained, high-energy ride. The 'wrong place at the wrong time' scenario for our main 'couple' makes you constantly wonder what you'd do in such a terrifying situation. It's not a deep character study, but the undeveloped work situation for some characters doesn't deter from the core fun. So, while 'Heart Eyes' doesn't quite dethrone Scream from its slasher throne for me (let's be real, that's a high bar!), it absolutely holds its own. It's a fantastic entry into the modern slasher genre, blending classic tropes with a fresh aesthetic. If you're looking for a fun, gory, and surprisingly witty horror film with great leads like Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding, especially around Valentine's Day, then this is definitely one to check out. It’s an 8/10 for a reason – highly recommend giving it a shot!
