We try our best to practice baby led weaning, so here’s some meals i’ve given Addie recently!

It’s SO important to offer your kids a wide array of foods in their day to day. My boyfriend is a very picky eater and won’t eat vegetables, so i’m trying my best to raise our daughter to eat as many things as possible. I try to keep lots of fruits and veggies on hand, more color the better.

When I first started introducing solids to my little one, Addie, I was constantly searching for new ideas and practical tips to make mealtime both fun and nutritious. It's truly amazing to watch them explore new flavors and textures. One meal that always seems to be a hit in our house, and one I often get asked about, is spaghetti! Yes, even for a 6-month-old. The trick is all in the preparation. For little hands, I make sure the spaghetti is cooked extra soft and cut into manageable, short pieces – think a couple of inches long, easy for tiny fingers to grasp. For the sauce, I usually opt for a homemade version or a low-sodium, sugar-free store-bought option. I often blend a simple tomato sauce with some pureed vegetables like carrots or zucchini to sneak in extra nutrients. Sometimes, I'll even mix in a little ground beef or ground chicken, cooked thoroughly and broken into tiny, soft crumbles, to boost the protein content. It's messy, but the joy on her face as she slurps those noodles is priceless! Beyond spaghetti, I've found success with other protein sources. Chicken sausage, for instance, can be a great option. I always choose a low-sodium, preservative-free variety, cook it thoroughly, and then slice it into thin, coin-shaped pieces or even quarter them lengthwise, depending on her grasp and chewing ability. It’s a fantastic way to introduce different textures and flavors. We've also experimented with simple Mac & Cheese, ensuring the pasta is soft and the cheese sauce isn't too thick or salty. Fruits and vegetables remain a cornerstone of our BLW journey. I try to ensure my little one has something colorful and fresh at every meal. Bananas are a daily staple – perfect for a quick snack or to mash into other foods. Avocados are another favorite; I cut them into spears or mash them slightly, offering a healthy fat boost. I've found that consistency is key. Even if she doesn't eat much of a new food the first time, I keep offering it. It can take multiple exposures for babies to accept new tastes, so patience is a virtue! I've also learned that snack time doesn't have to be complicated. Simple, easily digestible fruits like steamed apple slices, berries (cut into quarters), or soft melon pieces are always a win. The goal is to make food exposure a positive experience. Remember, it's about offering a wide array of foods without pressure. Every baby's journey is unique, and celebrating small victories, whether it's a new food tried or a particularly enthusiastic mealtime, makes it all worthwhile. Keep experimenting, keep offering, and enjoy watching your little one discover the delicious world around them!
