PoV: It’s Not You, It’s Your Pain-Body

There are moments when your emotions feel so intense, it’s like they’ve taken over your entire body. You say things you don’t mean, react in ways that surprise you, or feel like you’re drowning in something you can’t name.

Eckhart Tolle calls this the pain-body — a buildup of old, unprocessed emotions that rise up and hijack your present.

And here’s the truth: it doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’ve carried so much for so long that survival became your default.

The shift begins when you can notice it. Instead of spiraling deeper into shame or guilt, you pause and whisper to yourself:

👉 “This isn’t the whole me. This is pain surfacing. And I can choose how to meet it.”

Books like The Power of Now don’t promise quick fixes, but they give you language and tools to finally see what’s happening inside — and that’s often the first step toward real healing.

You’re not broken. You’re human. And your pain doesn’t get the final say. 🤍

... Read moreWhen the pain-body takes over, it often feels as if an unfamiliar force is controlling your emotions and reactions, making you say or do things that surprise even yourself. This sensation of emotional hijacking is not a sign of weakness, but rather an indication of a survival mechanism formed from years of carrying unresolved emotional wounds. Eckhart Tolle describes this phenomenon as the "pain-body," a buildup of old pain that lives within us until we learn to observe it consciously. Many people, especially women, might notice the pain-body manifesting strongly in close relationships, during conflicts, or moments of silence. Recognizing this is the first critical step—not fighting or suppressing the feelings but pausing to say, "This isn’t the whole me; it’s my pain showing up." This practice creates a healthy distance from the pain-body, enabling you to respond with awareness rather than reactive patterns. Eckhart Tolle’s book, The Power of Now, offers valuable tools and language to help observe these intrusions without becoming overwhelmed or defined by them. While it doesn't offer quick fixes, it gives an empowering framework that encourages mindfulness and emotional healing. Healing the pain-body also involves self-compassion—understanding that everyone carries emotional burdens and that your pain doesn’t define your worth. Instead of falling into guilt or shame, embracing the pain as part of your human experience allows you to start choosing healthier responses and open a path toward emotional freedom and inner peace. Saving and revisiting these insights during moments when emotions feel bigger than you can be an effective practice. It reminds you that underneath the pain-body’s surface, your true self remains intact and has the power to reclaim control. This inner peace journey is a gradual yet transformative process that fosters resilience and authentic emotional healing.
