controversial beauty tips you are still following

🧊 Icing your face ~ Icing your face with an ice-cube or dunking your face in the ice water is extremely irritating to the skin. Unless you hurt yourself it really is unnecessary. It is so easy to get an ice burn, and make the skin red and irritated. In case your are struggling with morning puffiness - I recommend using NuFace instead.

🧖🏽‍♀️Not rinsing micellar water - micellar water is amazing, I love it so much. You are supposed to rinse it off. It has soap like components in it that is removing makeup, therefore, it isn’t like the regular water for the face.

🧴 using Chemical sunscreens ~ Did you know that a drop of a chemical sunscreen is killing an olympic size pool of coral reefs. Even if you don’t go swimming with it , and just rinse it off at home, it still gets to the water.

Not to mention, even if I wanted to use chemical sunscreen on the face, I wouldn’t be able to, it severely burns my eyes to the point where they are red and watering and I can’t even have them open. Anyone else?

... Read moreYou know, for the longest time, I was convinced that icing my face was the ultimate secret to glowing, de-puffed skin. I’d see all these videos of women icing their face with ice cubes, dunking their faces in ice water, and swearing by it. I thought, 'If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me!' So, I grabbed an ice cube and started diligently rubbing it all over my face every morning. At first, I felt that satisfying tingle, and my skin did look a bit tighter. But after a few weeks, I started noticing some alarming changes. My usually calm skin became redder, more sensitive, and sometimes even felt a bit raw. I even got a small, almost invisible, ice burn on my cheekbone once – a tiny patch that peeled for days! That’s when I realized, this popular 'beauty hack' might actually be causing more harm than good. It turns out, that intense cold can constrict blood vessels so much that it can actually damage delicate capillaries, leading to broken veins or permanent redness, especially if you have sensitive skin or rosacea. The temporary tightening effect is often just that – temporary – and not worth the potential long-term damage to your skin barrier. My dermatologist later explained that while cold can reduce inflammation, applying an ice cube directly to the skin for prolonged periods is too harsh. It can strip your skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation, and even make conditions like acne worse by disrupting the skin's protective layer. She advised that if you're looking to reduce morning puffiness and improve blood circulation for better skin health, there are much gentler and more effective methods. Instead of ice cubes, I've found a few amazing alternatives that really work for me. For instance, using a chilled jade roller or gua sha stone can provide a similar cooling and de-puffing effect through lymphatic drainage massage, without the risk of ice burn. I keep mine in the fridge, and it feels heavenly! Another game-changer, as mentioned in the article, is an at-home facial device like NuFace. It uses microcurrents to gently lift and tone, giving you that 'awake' look without any harsh cold. Also, don't underestimate the power of simply placing a cool, damp cloth on your face or using chilled eye masks. These provide a soothing effect without shocking your skin. Hydration plays a huge role too! Drinking plenty of water throughout the day and using hydrating serums can significantly reduce morning puffiness from the inside out. I also try to sleep with my head slightly elevated, which helps with fluid drainage. Learning to listen to my skin and finding gentler ways to achieve my beauty goals has been a real journey, and my skin has thanked me for it. So, if you're still thinking about icing your face, I’d encourage you to explore these safer, more skin-friendly options. Your skin barrier will definitely appreciate it!

there is no evidence that any kind of sunscreen is causing damage to coral reefs. LabMuffinBeauty has a video talking about it (she is a chemist, has a phd, etc) and she says it’s likely that the coral is just being damaged by the fact that there are humans near it not that fact that there r ppl w sunscreen on near it

It’s so hard to find a mineral sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast but I’ve found one that settles in and isn’t noticeable at least on my pale skin.
