First time making salmon!
Cooking and trying salmon for the very first time!
As someone who's just embarked on their cooking journey, especially with seafood, tackling salmon for the first time felt like a big step! But I'm here to tell you, it's totally achievable and incredibly rewarding. If you're wondering how to cook salmon and make it taste good, especially if you're a beginner, you've come to the right place. My choice for this inaugural cooking adventure was a delicious crab stuffed salmon, which I picked up from Sam's Club. Choosing a pre-stuffed fillet can actually simplify the process significantly for beginners, as it takes care of a complex step. This article will share my personal experience and tips on how to make salmon taste good, focusing on simple seasoning and a straightforward cooking method. For seasoning, I discovered that you don't need a pantry full of exotic spices. A simple salmon seasoning blend is often the most effective. I used a combination of Dan O's seasoning and Weber's Garlic Parmesan. These two together create a fantastic flavor profile that isn't overwhelming but truly enhances the natural richness of the salmon. The key is to generously apply the seasoning directly to the fish – don't be shy! This ensures every bite is flavorful and delicious. For Atlantic salmon, these seasoning choices work wonders, providing a savory and aromatic crust when roasted. Now, for the cooking method. Roasting is, in my opinion, one of the easiest and most foolproof ways to cook salmon, especially for beginners. I preheated my oven and roasted the crab stuffed salmon for about 20 minutes. The goal is a flaky texture and an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). Overcooking is the enemy of good salmon, so keeping an eye on the clock and knowing your oven is crucial for making salmon taste good. To complement the main dish, I prepared some delightful side dishes: fresh carrots and red potatoes. For the potatoes, I followed a simple trick: parboiling them until they were fork-tender before tossing them with some of the same seasonings (Dan O's and Garlic Parmesan) and a drizzle of olive oil. Then, these seasoned potatoes and carrots went into the oven to roast alongside the salmon for the same 20 minutes. Roasting them together not only saves time but also allows the flavors to meld beautifully, creating a cohesive and satisfying family dinner. My first attempt at cooking salmon was a resounding success, and honestly, the girls actually loved it – something I wasn't entirely expecting! It just goes to show that with a few simple steps and the right seasoning, anyone can master how to cook salmon. Don't be afraid to try it; it's easier than you think and can quickly become a go-to healthy and delicious meal.
