Don’t sleep on red wine vinegar on your pizza… it’s SO good. Eric told me about it when we first started dating. He took me to his favorite pizza shop, Bella’s, in his hometown of Tom’s River, NJ. We sat down with our slices and he immediately reached for the bottle of red wine vinegar on the table. I was stunned as I watched him splash it on his pizza… partly impressed, and partly pissed I didn’t think of it myself 😂 (I LOVE vinegar 😋). He said, “just try it” and the rest was history. 🥰
This pizza build was:
- Personal pizza sized pizza crust
- Pesto
- Sauce
- @locatellicheese_official
- Dollops of my leftover weeknight meat sauce
- Canned sliced mushrooms (patted dry)
- Canned spinach drained and squeezed
- @kraft.naturalcheese shredded mozzarella and shredded Italian blend
Baked at 450 on a parchment lined cooking sheet to my liking. Finished with a splash of red wine vinegar and a sprinkle of Locatelli 😋
Adding red wine vinegar to pizza might sound unconventional, but it truly brings a delightful burst of flavor that complements the richness of cheese and savory toppings. In my own experience, using red wine vinegar as a finishing touch gives the pizza a subtle acidity that cuts through the heaviness and brightens every bite. When I recreate a similar pizza at home, I like to balance the vinegar with hearty ingredients such as pesto, meat sauce, and a blend of mozzarella and Italian cheeses. Draining canned mushrooms and spinach well before adding them helps keep the crust from becoming soggy while maintaining their earthiness. Baking the pizza at a high temperature, such as 450°F on a parchment-lined sheet, achieves a crispy crust and melted cheese. Finally, a modest splash of red wine vinegar, combined with a sprinkle of hard cheese like Locatelli or Parmesan, takes the flavor to the next level. If you love exploring new twists on traditional pizza, I encourage you to try this method. The vinegar introduces a tasty, surprising nuance that makes each slice more enjoyable. Remember, a little goes a long way—add it gradually to discover your perfect balance. This trick is especially great for those who appreciate tangy, vinegary notes in their food and want to experiment beyond standard pizza toppings.
