World Ozone Day falls on September 16 of each year, established by the United Nations to commemorate the date the Montreal Protocol was signed in 1987.
Why is there World Ozone Day?
World Ozone Day is meant to raise awareness of the importance of the ozone atmosphere, and highlights the achievements of international cooperation in protecting the ozone layer, the world's major shield.
The Montreal Protocol is considered one of the most successful environmental agreements in history, with the goal of reducing and phasing out the use of chemicals that damage the ozone layer, such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which have previously been used in refrigerators, sprays and air conditioners.
Today's celebration is a demonstration that when international nations cooperate, great environmental problems can be addressed, and also a reminder that the recovery of the ozone layer still requires continued commitment and cooperation to sustain our planet.
Today, Bangkok has joined with the Order of the Plant Network over 2,188,163 trees, which is another milestone in increasing green space, building natural walls, reducing dust, increasing ozone, and enhancing the quality of life of the public, as well as improving green space with over 53 parks across Bangkok and 395 15-minute gardens.

วันโอโซนโลกซึ่งตรงกับวันที่ 16 กันยายนของทุกปี เป็นวันที่สำคัญอย่างยิ่งในการกระตุ้นให้ทุกคนได้เล็งเห็นความสำคัญของชั้นโอโซนที่ทำหน้าที่เสมือนเกราะป้องกันรังสีอัลตราไวโอเลตจากดวงอาทิตย์ที่เป็นอันตรายต่อมนุษย์และสิ่งมีชีวิตบนโลก เมื่อชั้นโอโซนถูกทำลายโดยสารเคมีอย่างเช่น CFCs ซึ่งเคยใช้ในอุปกรณ์ต่าง ๆ ทำให้เกิดปัญหารุนแรงต่อสุขภาพและสิ่งแวดล้อม จึงเกิดความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศอย่างพิธีสารมอนทรีออลขึ้นในปี 2530 เพื่อบรรเทาวิกฤตนี้ นอกจากนี้ การเน้นย้ำถึงการฟื้นฟูของชั้นโอโซนยิ่งจำเป็นต้องดำเนินการต่อไปอย่างต่อเนื่อง ถึงแม้สถานการณ์จะดีขึ้นแต่ก็ยังมีความท้าทายจากการใช้สารเคมีที่ส่งผลกระทบต่อโอโซนและปัญหาอื่น ๆ ทางสิ่งแวดล้อมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับอากาศและภูมิอากาศ ด้วยเหตุนี้ การร่วมมือของชุมชนและหน่วยงานท้องถิ่นจึงสำคัญมาก อาทิ กรุงเทพมหานคร ที่ได้มีการปลูกต้นไม้กว่า 2 ล้านต้นเป็นการเพิ่มพื้นที่สีเขียว สร้างแนวกำแพงธรรมชาติลดฝุ่นและเพิ่มโอโซนในอากาศ ซึ่งเป็นการช่วยลดผลกระทบจากมลพิษทางอากาศและสภาพแวดล้อมที่เปลี่ยนแปลง การพัฒนาสวนสาธารณะกว่า 53 แห่ง และสวน 15 นาที จำนวน 395 แห่งในกรุงเทพฯ ยังช่วยส่งเสริมให้ประชาชนเข้าถึงพื้นที่สีเขียวใกล้บ้านมากขึ้น ส่งผลดีทั้งต่อสุขภาพกายและจิตใจของประชาชน เพิ่มโอกาสในการใช้ชีวิตอย่างยั่งยืนไปพร้อมกับการรักษาสิ่งแวดล้อม ในภาพรวม วันโอโซนโลกนอกจากจะเป็นวันที่ให้ความรู้และตระหนักถึงบทบาทสำคัญของชั้นโอโซนแล้ว ยังสะท้อนความสำเร็จของความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศและภาคประชาชนในการปกป้องโลกของเราด้วยการสนับสนุนกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ เช่น การปลูกต้นไม้และการลดใช้สารเคมีทำลายโอโซน เพื่อสร้างโลกที่น่าอยู่สำหรับคนรุ่นต่อไปอย่างแท้จริง #วันโอโซนโลก #WorldOzoneDay #สาฝกสิ่งแวดล้อม #กทม #BMA #Ozone #สวน15นาที #ต้นไม้ล้านต้น
