This training plan for the RBC Brooklyn Half has been so rewarding, fun, hard and just plain challenging. @RBC @New York Road Runners @Runna @Strava @Endorphins
Yeah I was suppose to run 11 miles but only rain 6.25 miles (10k). There are just days when putting in the maximum effort is good enough. There are pals we have set but not get achieved.
I did get a PR though on my 10K from 1:01:15 to 1:01:1. 14 second PR!

Training for a half marathon, like the RBC Brooklyn Half, is often a rollercoaster of emotions and physical challenges. From my experience, what stood out most was the importance of flexibility and celebrating small victories. On some days, despite the best plans, factors like weather or physical condition mean you might not hit all your goals — like intending to run 11 miles but completing just over 6.25 miles instead. That’s perfectly okay. What matters is giving your best effort when you can and listening to your body. An interesting aspect of training is how consistent small improvements can add up to big gains. For example, shaving 14 seconds off your 10K time may seem minor, but it’s a clear indicator of progress and motivates you to keep going — reinforcing that persistence pays off. Tools like Strava and running groups offer valuable support and track progress, which can make training more engaging and fun. Additionally, events like the RBC Brooklyn Half connect runners to a larger community, from New York Road Runners to local running clubs, providing both structure and camaraderie. Whether your goal is marathon training, weight loss, or simply staying active, integrating your journey into such communities often enhances the experience. Lastly, tagging your experience with relevant themes (#marathontraining, #running, #weightlossjourney, #vsgcommunity) not only helps you find like-minded individuals but also keeps you accountable and motivated. Embrace the ups and downs, prioritize health, and celebrate every milestone—because every run brings you closer to your goals.
