anemia my blood runs cold
I’m a walking open wound it’s a pleasure to meet you #sincereengineer #emo #punk #embracevulnerability #shareyourthoughts
I totally get that feeling when your blood just runs cold, and you’re constantly tired, feeling almost like your body is just... a bit broken. For a long time, I felt like 'I'm a walking open wound,' emotionally and physically drained because of anemia. It wasn't just a metaphor; it felt like my energy was seeping away. That's why diving into the world of blood-boosting foods has been a game-changer for me. I wanted to share what I've learned and how these simple dietary changes have helped me feel so much stronger, less fragile, and more vibrant. When you're dealing with anemia, your body isn't producing enough healthy red blood cells, which means less oxygen is getting to your tissues. This can leave you feeling perpetually cold, fatigued, dizzy, and just generally low. The good news is, many common types of anemia, especially iron-deficiency anemia, can be significantly improved by adjusting what you eat. It’s not a magic bullet, but it's a huge step towards regaining your energy and feeling like yourself again. Here are some of my go-to foods that have really made a difference in increasing my blood levels: 1. Iron-Rich Powerhouses: Red Meat & Poultry: Lean beef, lamb, and chicken are fantastic sources of heme iron, which your body absorbs easily. I try to incorporate these a few times a week. Dark Leafy Greens: Spinach, kale, and collard greens are packed with non-heme iron. I love tossing a huge handful of spinach into my morning smoothie or making a big kale salad for lunch. It's an easy way to sneak in those nutrients! Legumes: Lentils, beans (like black beans and kidney beans), and chickpeas are not only affordable but also a great source of iron for plant-based diets. I often make hearty lentil soups or add chickpeas to my curry. Fortified Cereals & Breads: Check labels for iron-fortified options. These can be a quick and easy way to get some extra iron in your breakfast. 2. Vitamin C for Super Absorption: This is a crucial tip I learned: pairing iron-rich foods with Vitamin C dramatically boosts absorption! Citrus Fruits: Oranges, grapefruits, and lemons. I always squeeze lemon juice over my spinach or add berries to my iron-fortified oatmeal. Berries: Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries – delicious and full of Vitamin C. Bell Peppers: Especially red and yellow ones. They’re great in stir-fries or just sliced up as a snack. Tomatoes: Excellent in sauces, salads, or roasted. 3. Folate & Vitamin B12 Heroes: These vitamins are essential for red blood cell production. Folate: Found in liver, dark leafy greens, beans, peas, and fortified grains. Vitamin B12: Primarily in animal products like meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, fortified foods or supplements are vital. My Personal Approach & How I Feel Now: Initially, when I was at my lowest, I felt so delicate that I thought, 'don't make any sudden moves,' fearing I'd just fall apart. But by consistently adding these foods into my diet, I've noticed a significant change. My energy levels are up, I feel warmer, and that constant chill from "my blood runs cold" feeling has lessened. It's truly been a pleasure to meet this stronger, more resilient version of myself. It’s not just about eating; it’s about nourishing your body back to health. If you’re also struggling with low energy or anemia symptoms, I really encourage you to give these food strategies a try. You might be surprised at how much better you can feel!
