Gym advice

... Read moreIt's funny how your perspective on the gym can shift dramatically over time. When I first started, I was all about pushing myself to the limit, thinking that if I wasn't training 7x a week, I wasn't doing enough. My early "gym thoughts" were definitely quite extreme! But through trial and error, and a lot of exhaustion, I realized that YOUR HEALTH SHOULD BE A PRIORITY above all else, and that meant truly learning to YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. What does "listening to your body" actually look like? For me, it initially felt counter-intuitive. I associated rest with weakness. But I started noticing persistent fatigue, a lack of enthusiasm for workouts I used to love, and even minor aches that just wouldn't go away. That's when the message became clear: IF YOU NEED TO REST. REST!!! It's not about being lazy; it's about giving your muscles time to repair and grow stronger, and allowing your mind to recharge. Incorporating active recovery days, like gentle walks or stretching, also made a huge difference, helping me bounce back faster without feeling completely idle. Another massive game-changer in my fitness journey was understanding diet importance. You can't out-train a bad diet, and I learned that the hard way. For a long time, my focus was purely on burning calories. Now, my "gym thoughts" around food are all about fuel and recovery. Eating balanced meals with plenty of protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats gives me the energy to perform well during my workouts and helps my body recover afterwards. It's not about strict diets for me anymore, but about nourishing my body from the inside out so I feel strong and vibrant. I also had to re-evaluate my workout frequency. Going 7x a week led to burnout, and I realized YOU CAN'T KEEP A POSITIVE MINDSET ABOUT THE GYM IF YOU'RE WEARING YOURSELF DOWN. Now, I aim for 3-5 quality sessions a week, which feels much more sustainable. And if you're not already, I highly recommend incorporating strength training benefits into your routine! For the longest time, I was hesitant, thinking it would make me bulky. But it's been transformative! My posture is better, I feel stronger in everyday life, and it's fantastic for metabolism and bone health. There's a real sense of empowerment that comes from lifting heavier than you thought you could. Ultimately, my "gym thoughts" have evolved from a rigid, all-or-nothing approach to a more holistic one where well-being comes first. It's about finding a routine that genuinely makes you feel good, inside and out. Remember, this is your journey, and prioritizing your health is the best investment you can make.
