Intimate Gathering This CNY 🧧🍴

🏡 Seng House

📍214 Tanjong Katong Road Singapore 437007

Retro charm, homely comfort food and a space that feels like a warm hug — Seng House is made for slow catch-ups and intimate reunions (pets are welcome too!).

We tried their exclusive special Lunar New Year menu — the Prosperity Abacus Treasure Plate ($40), featuring hand-made Hakka abacus beads (yam gnocchi), tiger prawns, preserved radish, dried scallop, shiitake mushrooms, and red & green chilli. The gnocchi gives a dry stir-fry mee tai mak vibes. Fresh prawns, scallops, and mushrooms add gentle savoury notes, while the preserved radish and chilli bring bursts of flavour. Beyond the taste, this dish symbolises wealth and diligence for the year ahead.💰✨

The Golden Reunion Pork Platter ($46) includes the Roast Pork Belly and Spanish Pork Jowl. The pork belly was fairly crispy with a satisfying bite even after being left out a while, while the pork jowl was less memorable. The tangy lime chilli was the highlight, cutting through the richness and balancing the dish perfectly. 🔥

Overall, the menu leans on the lighter side, leaving us curious to try more dishes next time. With comforting flavours and a welcoming atmosphere, Seng House is a cosy spot for a relaxed meal with friends or family. 🤩

... Read moreIf you’re looking for a warm and inviting spot to celebrate Chinese New Year this year, Seng House offers a uniquely nostalgic experience with its blend of old-world charm and modern comfort food. What truly stands out about their Lunar New Year offerings is how each dish combines traditional symbolism with contemporary tastes. For example, their Prosperity Abacus Treasure Plate not only delights with hand-made Hakka-style yam gnocchi and fresh seafood but also embodies wishes for wealth and hard work in the year ahead—a meaningful touch that elevates the meal beyond just food. From my visit, the cozy, homely ambiance of Seng House made it the perfect venue for slow, intimate gatherings. The mix of retro décor and chic café vibes creates a space that feels relaxed yet special—ideal for reconnecting with loved ones over meaningful conversation and good food. Bonus points go to their pet-friendly outdoor area, which lets you bring along furry friends without worry. The Golden Reunion Pork Platter offers a delightful balance: the crispy roast pork belly satisfies with its texture and flavor, while the tangy lime chili cutting through the richness keeps the palate refreshed. Although the Spanish pork jowl was less striking, the dish as a whole provides a well-rounded experience. It’s clear that the menu favors lighter, comforting dishes, leaving room to explore further culinary options next time. For those who enjoy meals that carry cultural significance and a story behind every bite, Seng House’s special Lunar New Year menu is both delicious and thoughtful. It’s a great choice for small groups wanting to celebrate in a more intimate setting away from the usual hustle. Additionally, the blend of fresh ingredients such as tiger prawns, dried scallops, and shiitake mushrooms reflects quality and attention to detail. In summary, Seng House epitomizes what makes Chinese New Year gatherings memorable—shared food, meaningful traditions, and a space that feels like home. Whether you’re planning a family reunion or a casual dinner with friends, this venue offers a unique way to welcome prosperity and togetherness into the new year.

Our Intimate ROM in a Cantonese Restaurant
Husband and I recently held our solemnisation at Jia He — One Farrer Hotel We hosted 28 guests (3 tables) in a private room. I would say it can comfortably fit 30-33 in total. The room was cozy, ceiling height was good, lighting was ambient and our families absolutely loved the food. 🍽️:
