Spend the day with me as a college student abroad!
I am currently traveling this summer and right now I am in Santorini! So spend the day with me!
1: first we took a cable car up to Fira from the cruise port!
2: we rented atvs and drive all the way to…
3. Oia! With the perfect looking town with the beautiful blue domes!
4. Then we drove down to armoundi bay, and saw drying octopus, yes I did try it!
5. Then we drove again to the black sand beaches! And just laid there for a while.
6. Then it was time to head back to the boat!
Hope you enjoyed!

After our incredible ATV ride through Santorini, reaching the picturesque village of Oia with its iconic blue domes, our next stop was Ammoundi Bay, and let me tell you, it was a completely different vibe! The drive down from Oia to Ammoundi is quite an adventure in itself. Winding roads take you down a steep, rugged, reddish-brown cliffside, offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea. If you're on an ATV, it’s an exhilarating descent, feeling the wind in your hair as you anticipate reaching the clear turquoise bay below. Ammoundi Bay is this charming small fishing port, a real hidden gem compared to the bustling Oia. It feels more authentic, with a tranquil atmosphere. As we approached the small pier, the first thing that caught my eye were these unique sights: lines of octopuses, fresh from the sea, hanging to dry in the sun on a chain, just like the OCR image showed! It’s such a traditional sight, and it instantly makes you realize you're in a place deeply connected to its fishing roots. Seeing the sign for "Sunset in Ammoudi Fish Restaurant" reinforced that this was the place for fresh seafood. Now, about trying the drying octopus – yes, I actually did it! It was an experience I won't forget. The texture was surprisingly tender yet chewy, and the flavor was intensely savory, with a smoky hint from the sun-drying process. It was definitely a taste of authentic Greek cuisine, right there by the water. If you're adventurous with food, I highly recommend stepping out of your comfort zone and giving it a try. It’s part of the local culture and incredibly fresh. Beyond the unique culinary experience, Ammoundi Bay is also perfect for a relaxing afternoon. The clear turquoise waters are inviting for a swim, especially after a day of exploring. You can rent a sunbed, or simply find a spot on the rocks and enjoy the serene beauty. The bay is also famous for its stunning sunsets. While we were there during the day, I can only imagine how magical it would be to watch the sun dip below the horizon from one of the waterfront tavernas, perhaps while enjoying more fresh seafood. There are a few fantastic restaurants right on the water, offering delicious local dishes with incredible views. My tip for anyone visiting Ammoundi? Definitely consider renting an ATV or scooter for the journey down – it adds to the adventure and gives you flexibility. Don't rush your visit; take time to soak in the atmosphere, explore the small pier, and if you're feeling brave, absolutely try the locally prepared octopus. It’s these small, authentic experiences, like tasting a piece of Santorini’s culinary heritage, that truly make a trip memorable. Ammoundi Bay was a highlight of my day, offering a perfect blend of adventure, local culture, and delicious food.
