Anyone else with ADHD notice that caffeine doesn’t always “wake you up” — sometimes it does the opposite?

For me, coffee doesn’t hype me up. It puts me in a steady flow.

But when I add sugar + cream, I can feel my brain slow down instead of speed up.

I tried Neuro Gum (40mg caffeine) and honestly… it didn’t do nothing, but it didn’t make me jump up and get things done either.

It reminded me of when I was a kid and teachers said to chew gum during tests.

That peppermint, slightly medicinal taste?

Yeah — it wasn’t about energy. It was about focus and regulation.

🧠 For my ADHD brain:

• Coffee = regulation, not motivation

• Gum = maintenance, not a start button

Ever since Ive been a tween if I can't sleep I make a cup of coffee. I always thought it was because it's warm and made me cozy lol but now I know that with ADHD caffeine does the opposite of keeping me awake. Stimulants slow me down. Same thing like college kids taking ADHD meds, it would make them stay up for 2 days in the meantime I fall asleep lol.
