I've found that the biggest hurdle is the temptation to check notifications or browse social media, which pulls me away from important tasks like cleaning, working, or completing projects. To cope, I literally have to put my phone down and let it run out of battery. This forced break helps me create a distraction-free zone, enabling me to focus better on the task at hand. This technique might sound extreme, but it’s surprisingly effective. When my phone is off, I can maintain better concentration and enjoy longer periods of productivity. I also combine this approach with setting realistic routines where I break my work into manageable time blocks, allowing short phone breaks only after accomplishments. Additionally, I use apps that limit usage or create “do not disturb” windows to reduce the impulse to check my phone. It’s about creating an environment where ADHD impulses don’t control my day. Sharing experiences like this can help others realize that setbacks don’t have to stop progress—they just require creative coping strategies. If you struggle with ADHD and phone distractions, consider experimenting with letting your phone battery drain during focus periods or using tech tools to enforce breaks. It’s a simple shift but can have a big impact on productivity and mental clarity.
