From the word "normal" when a doctor's words hurt more than an illness.
"From the words, the usual, the irregular... when the words of the doctor hurt more than the illness that took us to the hospital."
by aekdon
In Thai society today, we have to accept the fact that the word "normal" from the mouth of some doctors is not "normal."
A lot of patients walk out of the emergency room, even though the body may be disconnected...
But the heart was traumatized by the unkind words.
This is an "irregular normal," which should not be born in a profession that is regarded as having to "keep life," not "hurt the mind."
What should a good doctor have? (the most basic but the rarest of this era)
1) Mindful Communication
Do not speak insults
No irony.
Not precipitating or dismissing patients.
The words are simple, polite, and give hope on a "responsible" level.
Because all the patients walk in with fear, anxiety and ignorance.
A doctor with only two words can immediately "calm" or "zero loss" the patient's heart.
2) Observe the symptoms, not observe the posture.
A good doctor "looks at symptoms, doesn't judge personality."
Some patients don't speak well.
Some patients worry until repeated.
Some patients are so hurt that they can't communicate.
The doctor's job is to "find something wrong in something that looks normal," not judge that.
"Nothing will disappear."
This is the real "normal."
3) Medical ethics: not a book, but a heart
Respect patient rights.
Keeping secrets
Not racist, not racist.
Don't use emotions.
Not talking to the patient, feeling impaired.
In the emergency room, sensitivity is important, but "roughness" is not an excuse.
Pressure is not a license to act merciful.
Something that doctors should never do.
Use a tone of irony, like, "This is it?"
Damn or show emotion
Judging patients by their looks, careers, positions.
The treatment is not explained.
Let medical students communicate instead without control.
Because words, doctors can become "emotional razors" that hurt patients more than illness.
Emergency doctors in particular... need to "understand," not just "heal."
ER is the field where humanity is most important.
The patient comes first in fear.
Come with second pain.
And come with third ignorance.
Doctors have to embrace these emotions... not relegation or contempt.
The idea that doctors, new doctors and bad mouths
"The medical profession is not a profession above everyone else.
But it is a profession that should have a heart above anger and words above emotion. "
You may cure the disease, but some words hurt the patient so that it is incurable.
What the patient remembers is not medicine...
But is how the doctor makes him "feel."
If you are a good doctor, only 10% can speak well and understand 90% of patients.
You'll be a lover doctor.
But if you're 100% good at it,
You're just "smart people the world doesn't want to get close to."
Law about words, doctor.
Don't think, "Say anything, it's over in the examination room," because...
Consumer Protection Act
Patients can complain if they have one.
Rude behavior
Aggressive speech
Improper service
Causing psychological damage
Civil-criminal law (defamation / blasphemy)
If the doctor speaks in a racist way, insults, abuse,
Medical regulations
Doctors may be subject to ethics exams.
Being rested using the disease certificate
Or serious to the point of revocation.
Doctor's words are not floating.
But it's "evidence" in an age when everyone has a phone.
Usually irregular... must be terminated in Thai medicine.
Patients don't need the best doctors.
But needs a doctor who "respects humanity" the most.
In a country where the public health system is still tired.
At least... there should be no more hurt words.
And when the doctor started saying,
"This one is normal," both of which are clearly unusual.
Know that...
This is a warning sign of a system that should be treated as well.
"From the word normal... that is not normal"
Some doctors are good at treating diseases, but they can't cure patient kindness.
The sick don't need miracles - they just need humanity from the people in front of them.
If words hurt patients... even with a professional certificate doesn't make them more "worthy" of being a doctor.
