Why I soak my strawberries in baking soda

Why do I soak my 🍓 in baking soda before I eat them?

✨ the results speak for themselves

✨ strawberries are one of the most contaminated fruits from pesticides

✨ 99% of strawberries tested in 2023 had residues from at least 1 pesticide & 30% of strawberries tested had residues from at least 10 or more pesticides. (source: USDA)

✨ quickly rinsing the strawberries under water will definitely not get all of the pesticides, dirt & bacteria off… that’s why I mix a little bit of baking soda with cold water… technically 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 2 cups of cold water

✨ I let the strawberries soak for at least 5 minutes, but not usually longer than 15 minutes.

✨ I rinse off any excess residue with more cold water

✨ and they’re ready to eat or store 🍓

... Read moreStrawberries are among the most pesticide-laden fruits, with a staggering 99% showing residues in recent tests. Soaking them in a mixture of baking soda and water is an effective method to remove these contaminants, which not only cleans the surface but can also reduce pesticide residues by up to 98%. Experts recommend using 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 2 cups of cold water, allowing the berries to soak for 5 to 15 minutes before rinsing them thoroughly. This practice ensures that you can enjoy your strawberries without worrying about hidden chemicals. Additionally, the use of baking soda is supported by studies showing it effectively removes other harmful substances, making it a versatile addition to your washing routine for fruits and vegetables. By adopting this method, you contribute to a healthier lifestyle and promote better eating habits, ensuring that you enjoy your fruits safely. To further enhance your fruit washing techniques, consider integrating other natural solutions such as vinegar in your routine. While baking soda effectively targets pesticide residues, vinegar can help in removing bacteria. This combination can ensure that your fruit is not only clean but also safe for consumption, satisfying your health-conscious lifestyle. Embracing these holistic practices will lead to a more mindful approach to eating, aligning with a holistic wellness philosophy.
