Vacation eats, anti-inflammatory style…
Real talk: the second we got to the hotel and Brett asked me what I wanted for dinner, I completely froze. Like, full-on what-do-I-even-eat freak-out mode. I was torn between sticking to this new anti-inflammatory diet I’ve been working so hard to stick to and just wanting to enjoy my vacation and life.
But with the pooey hand my health’s dealt me, I knew I had to try my hardest to stay on track, which is easier said than done. Seriously, how do you eat clean when you have no clue what’s in your restaurant food or how they’re cooking it? It’s like a gamble every time.
We were smart enough to get a hotel room with a mini fridge—thank God for Brett thinking of that! So we swung by a grocery store and loaded up on berries and cucumbers, my go-to when I’m hangry and trying not to screw up. Most days, I stuck to salads with vinaigrette dressings and roasted veggie sides. But, okay, I gotta confess: one night I totally caved and got the pommes puree. Oh my gosh, it was to die for 😋 (when you only eat sweet potatoes as your source of carbs for a month straight, other carbs just hit different!)
It’s crazy to me that eating real, whole foods is considered “dieting.” Isn’t this how we’re supposed to feed ourselves? Why is it such a mission to find simple stuff that doesn’t mess with my body? I’m still figuring it out, and let’s be real—it’s nowhere near perfect. But I’m not chasing perfect. It’s about making those small, consistent choices as often as I can. They’ll add up, and that’s what’s gonna get me to better health. That’s the real win.
This trip, I barely touched my phone, trying to soak up the moment. But now I’m kicking myself for not snapping pics of my meals. Going forward, I’m gonna do better at sharing my travel eats—the wins, the flops, and the “oops, I ate that” moments.
Here’s my reminder to myself (and you): Focus on progress, not perfection. Every healthy choice counts, even when it feels like you’re moving at a snail’s pace. Let’s keep at it together!
