Let’s Make: Chicken Tagine
Let’s Make Chicken Tagine 🍗
Okay, okay, okay… when I was younger, I used to go to a Restauraunt with my family and eat what is SWEAR was a seven course meal! We’d start out with pita bread and tomatoes & cucumber, eggplant, and other veggies. Then they would serve a meat pie with cinnamon, and then they would bring out this amazingly delectable dish called Chicken Tagine. I would DIE to taste it again! We’d eat everything by hand, and after a few more trays of food, we would enjoy a piece of baklava with mint tea. And we would absolutely go straight into a food coma.
THIS is my rendition of the dish. I did not use all of the traditional ingredients such as saffron and cardamom or lemon preserves, but I will say that it sure hits the spot. It can only get better next time! 🔥👩🏽🍳
Chicken Tagine is a Moroccan dish renowned for its unique blend of spices and flavors. Traditionally cooked in a tagine, this North African stew is characterized by its use of ingredients such as chicken, apricots, olives, and various spices like cinnamon and cumin. While saffron and preserved lemons are often staples in classic recipes, creative variations like this one allow you to explore your own culinary flair. Marinating the chicken with spices before cooking enriches the flavors, making each bite a delightful experience. The dish not only offers a feast for the taste buds but also provides an aromatic experience with its fragrant spices. Pairing it with couscous or bread makes for a hearty meal perfect for gatherings or cozy family dinners. As you experiment with different ingredients, don't hesitate to add your personal touch—whether it's more vegetables or a dash of your favorite spice. Enjoying Chicken Tagine is not just about the dish itself; it’s an invitation to dive into the rich culinary heritage of Moroccan cuisine.
