PCOS Has Been Renamed PMOS

PCOS is officially being renamed PMOS and honestly… the new name makes so much more sense. 👀

The condition formerly known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is being renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) to better reflect what the condition actually is and how deeply it can affect the body.

For years, the name “PCOS” caused confusion because not everyone with the condition even has ovarian cysts. The new name highlights that it’s not just reproductive, but also hormonal and metabolic.

PMOS can affect:

• hormones

• insulin resistance

• metabolism

• fertility

• mental health

• weight changes

• acne

• irregular periods

• and so much more

A lot of women have spent years feeling misunderstood, dismissed, or undiagnosed, so seeing more awareness and education around this condition feels important 🤍

The transition to the new name is expected to happen gradually over the next few years.

... Read moreHaving lived with PCOS for several years, I can personally attest to how confusing and frustrating it was dealing with the symptoms and the lack of clear explanations. The recent renaming to PMOS resonates with many women because it acknowledges that this condition is more than just ovarian cysts; it's a complex syndrome impacting hormone balance, metabolism, and overall health. One thing that became clear to me over time is how inflammation and insulin resistance play a significant role in PMOS symptoms like weight gain, acne, and even mood swings. It’s not solely about reproductive health, which the old name suggested. Understanding this helped me shift my focus to holistic care, including diet changes and supplements. For instance, incorporating whole, nutrient-dense foods such as oats, quinoa, and leafy greens really made a difference in managing my insulin levels and reducing flare-ups of symptoms. Avoiding refined carbs and sugary foods proved equally important since they can spike insulin and worsen inflammation. Supplements like Inositol, Vitamin D, Magnesium, Omega-3, Zinc, and Spearmint tea were game-changers for me. They helped balance hormones, improve insulin sensitivity, and reduce symptoms like acne and irregular periods. Sleep, regular exercise, and stress management were also essential for maintaining balance. Mental health is another key area affected by PMOS, something many women don't expect. Recognizing mood swings, anxiety, and fatigue as part of the syndrome helped me seek appropriate support and coping strategies. As awareness of PMOS grows, it’s encouraging to see a shift toward recognizing the whole-person impact of this condition rather than just the ovarian symptoms. For anyone who feels misunderstood or dismissed, know that the renaming is a step toward better diagnosis, treatment, and support for a complex metabolic and endocrine disorder affecting many aspects of life.

It’s might be considered a factor with the new weightloss medications for insurance purposes. So, I heard I would consult a doctor first.
