Sweet Potato Hand Pies

“Sweet southern handheld heaven…These sweet potato hand pies bring granny kitchen right to your fingertips. Flaky, golden, and kissed with a cinnamon sugar glaze. 🔥🔥🔥

Sweet Potato Hand Pie

Filling:

500g Mashed Sweet potato

150g brown sugar

114g browned butter

130g milk

1 Tbsp Vanilla

1/2 vanilla pod (beans)

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1/4 tsp ground ginger

1/4 tsp ground clove

1/4 tsp salt

Roast Potatoes at 420°F for one hour. Once finished, remove the skin from the potatoes using only the flesh. Mash the potatoes with a potato masher. Once mashed, add in the remaining ingredients and mix well. Cover and chill for one hour before using. *might seem runny, but the starch in the potato will thicken it as it chills

Dough:

380g A.P. Flour

226g frozen butter (grated)

1tbsp Sugar

1tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp salt

8-10 tbsp ice water

Grate frozen butter… Place in the freezer. While the butter is in the freezer gather the rest of your ingredients. Add flour sugar cinnamon and salt to a bowl. Mix. Add In Frozen butter. Use the “cut-in” method to incorporate the butter into the flour. Once crumbly start slowly adding your water. Once it forms into a dough. Form it into a disc shape wrap in plastic and store in the refrigerator for at least one hour. After one hour roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut circles using a biscuit cutter or cookies cutter (4”-5”) Stuff circles with filling and bake at 400F for 15-20 minutes

Cinnamon Glaze

120g powdered sugar

2 tbsp milk

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Salt

Mix powdered sugar and cinnamon in a bowl add in vanilla and milk mix well… adjust texture with milk
