Cardio or strength training — which one are you doing more of right now?

After 40, this choice makes or breaks your results. Save this post and drop "STRENGTH" or "CARDIO" below 👇🏽

7/29 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my personal experience, once you hit your 40s, the way your body responds to exercise shifts significantly. I used to prioritize cardio for weight loss, but I noticed that incorporating strength training made a huge difference — not just in how I looked, but in how I felt overall. Strength training helped me build muscle mass, which naturally slows down metabolism with age. This resulted in my body burning more calories even at rest, something cardio alone couldn’t achieve long-term. Another benefit I found was strength training's impact on bone density. As we age, bones become more fragile, and lifting weights can help prevent osteoporosis and support hormonal balance. Cardio is great for heart health and endurance, but it doesn’t provide the same metabolic boost or body shaping effects. What really transformed my fitness journey was combining both wisely. I do moderate cardio to maintain cardiovascular fitness but prioritize strength sessions to sculpt my body — achieving a tighter waist, lifted glutes, and defined arms. It’s important to note that strength training's afterburn effect keeps you burning calories even after working out, unlike cardio which primarily burns calories during the activity. If you’re over 40 like me, I encourage you to shift your focus more towards strength training for lasting results and a toned, healthier version of yourself. Don’t just rely on cardio — your metabolism and muscles will thank you for it.
