Everything Bagels
I tried making bagels for breakfast this morning. They were good, but they have a slightly softer texture than regular bagels; a little closer to that of a homemade biscuit. Here’s the recipe I used:
• 1 3/4 cup of self-rising flour
• 1 cup of lowfat Greek yogurt
• 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
• 1 egg
• Everything bagel seasoning
Preheat oven to 350. In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and Greek yogurt. Mix well, then knead the dough into a ball.
Grease baking sheet with butter. Divide the dough into 6 balls. Roll out each ball and shape into a ring. Set each ring onto the baking sheet.
In a small bowl, whisk an egg. Use a basting brush to brush the egg onto the bagels. Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on top. Bake in oven for 22 minutes.
1 bagel is 158 calories.

Making homemade bagels can elevate your breakfast and impress your guests. To achieve the perfect texture and flavor, consider experimenting with different types of yogurt or adjusting the baking time slightly. For a flavor boost, try adding toppings such as sesame seeds or poppy seeds along with the everything bagel seasoning. When mixing, ensure you knead the dough adequately to develop gluten, which will give your bagels that classic chewy texture. Don't forget to use a baking stone for optimal results if you have one; this can help achieve a crispier crust. Serving your bagels fresh out of the oven can make all the difference in taste. Additionally, they can be stored in an airtight container for a few days, or you can freeze them for later use. Enjoy these bagels with cream cheese, avocado, or your favorite spreads to enhance the flavor experience!
